We booked with my family Leiners Hotel in Garmisch Partenkirchen after reading reviews and because we wanted to be close to ski areas with black pistes but also a variety of them, lots of family friendly activities and nice view mountains. So it seemed that the staying nearby the highest point of the German / Bavarian Alps, Zugspitze at almost 3,000 meters and with guaranateed snow, staying at Garmisch-Partenkirchen was a good option.
Personally for family friendly accommodations I believe that personal taste is also playing a role, as well as for every person the expectation could be different, also the relation between price and value, but some things i believe shall always be there when we talk about family friendly. And this hotel was a great surprise for us and we are looking to book it again for our next year ski / winter holidays.
So this is what me and family experienced in case you want to give it a try:
Our positive experience started already from the booking process. We requested information via the webiste and shortly after we received the offers : the explanations, the details, the colors, the program, the all inclusive (non alcoholic) offer, the ameninties, the rooms, the location, we really liked everything we saw. We decided to book but also knowing we would make our final assessement if really it was so good as it seemed after having stayed at the hotel. Important also to say we wanted to have our dog with us and the hotel is also dog friendly 🙂 As you will see below, in this hotel no matter if you travel with babies, toddlers or older kids you do not need to carry a lot of things. The hotel provides almost everything you need 🙂
Few days before we travel to the hotel, we received an email with additional explanations but also the first part of a bedtime story. What an original idea i thought 🙂 Indeed while staying at the hotel, every evening we would find at our door a part of the story that was completed during our stay. Kids were anticipating to receive the next part of the story every day!
Upon arrival we parked at the nice parking of the hotel and we immediately realized we were at a great place. The outdoor playground has everything for the kids to enjoy, including a big trampoline, a 5×5 soccer place, even disc golf installation, sand pit, wooden structure with slide etc.
At the entrance of the hotel just before entering we saw many sleighs, in different shapes and forms that you can use when you go sledding so you do not need to bring yours.
We also saw many strollers, in different shapes and sizes so you do not need to bring a stroller either :). If you bring you own, the hotel staff will make sure to put a small label on it marked as ”privat” so other guests know this is not part of the strollers offering.
We were greeted at the reception and the nice lady made us a tour of the hotel, explaning about the program and the activities, the usage of the swimming pool and sauna area and took us to see our room. What I really remarked was the hotel was amazingly clean!
So in the hotel area you find the following :
- Restaurant : a table will be assigned to your family; if you travel with bigger group just say it and they will make sure you all seat together 🙂 In the restaurant you will find cuttlery and plates suitable for children and babies, but also of course for adults. The quality and variety of the food is amazing to satisfy everyone, baby food is also available. There is breakfast, lunch, cake and coffee afternooon, dinner (kids buffet and 4 course dinner for all if kids want to try it also). I was also amazed by the salad bar : i have not seen in many hotels (except really big ones in Dubai ) such amazing salad bar. Every morning at the breakfast you will find at your table the menu for the evening, the lunch suggestions and if you are going back for lunch etc. You can also take boxes to get the lunch from the breakfast buffet with you in case you are not returning for lunch at the hotel). In the restaurant there is also a small play corner for small kids.
- Swimming pool area (indoor) there are 2 swimming pools: one for babies and one deep. The hotel offers also free swimming lessons for kids in the all inclusive formula. Just bring your swimwear : the rest you will find at the hotel: swimming pool noodles, safe euqipment for babies, toddlers and kids, swimming gogles, the special swimming pumpers (not sure what they are called lol), even swimming/water shoes, toys to play in the water. Everyhing is available ( towels also of course). The good thing is that the swimming pool and sauna area stay open every day until 10pm. Which is great !!!!!!!
- Sauna : 2 saunas one finnish and one Bio Sauna. The Bio Sauna you can use together with the kids, but the access to the rest of the sauna area is above 16 years old, There is also places to do massage. Just ask at the reception
- Free Yoga classes are also offered for both kids and adults (more info on the hotel website)
- Indoor playground with soft play, climbing wall, swing, slide and more
- Indoor games ( football, ping pong table and more)
- Separate area where child care is provided : your childrem will be taken care by a dedicated team for educators and animators and every day there is a fully day program with activities. Once per week they even take the chiildren for ice – skating ! Not mandatory of course to participate ; there is also evening entertainment for kids ( disco, singing etc)
- Â Areas to sit and relax, lovely reading corners, books and magazines availalable ( more in english would be nice also to have), fireplace.
- For our doggie it was also excellent : poo bags, treats and also recommended walks with the dog were provided to us We had forgotten to take the bowls for our doggie but the hotel provides also this : 2 bowls (for food and water) so we did not have to worry about forgettting them.
- Excellent location: only 10 min drive from Garmisch Klassik ski area ; the ski schools of the area can also arrange pick up from the hotel to take the kiddos. The location is great to explore both german and austrian alps. Don’t miss Mittenwald! For the rest of the things you can enjoy in the area I will come back with another post
